New Year, New You
2019 is quickly approaching and the new year is the time for new beginnings. Do you make new year’s resolutions? If so, why not focus on the health of your skin? To get started, here are a few of our favorite skincare resolutions for every year:
Resolution No. 1: “I will stick to my skincare routine.” While finding a routine that works for your lifestyle and skin type is important, doing this routine every day is even more important. Choose a cleanser and moisturizer that works for your skin, and add in additional items like toner, eye cream, serums, and facial masks as needed. Also make it a goal to remove your makeup every night before you hit the sheets (see resolution No. 4).
Resolution No. 2: “I will wear SPF every day.” No matter the time of the year, you should always protect your skin by minimizing its exposure to direct sunlight. To shield yourself from the sun’s harmful rays, we suggest applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, like Skinfuse® SHIELD. Also, try limiting the amount of time you spend in the sun during peak hours. If you must be outside, find shade or cover your skin.
Resolution No. 3: “I will stay hydrated.” To help keep your water intake on track, try adding in fresh fruit or herbs to change the flavor of the water, and make sure to carry a water bottle with you at work or while running errands. Drinking a glass of water before each meal as well as eating foods high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, like fatty fish or flaxseeds, and vitamin C, such as citrus fruit or dark green leafy vegetables, will keep you hydrated from the inside out.
Resolution No. 4: “I will get a good night’s sleep.” Getting a full night of rest doesn’t just prevent raccoon eyes. During sleep, your body is given the chance to recover and heal. Getting seven to nine hours of quality, uninterrupted snooze time each night can lead to less puffy eyes and a happier, healthier appearance. Also, try to avoid using strongly scented laundry detergent on your sheets as this can be irritating to the skin.
Resolution No. 5: “I will invest in my skin.” Since your skin is one of the first things people notice about you, why wouldn’t you invest in it the way you would a new handbag or pair of shoes? A microneedling treatment, such as SkinPen® by Crown Aesthetics, can help improve your appearance and leave you feeling confident. Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure that helps improve the appearance of facial acne scars, and SkinPen is the first microneedling device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. With results in as few as three procedures, this will be one resolution you’ll want to stick with. Find a provider near you.
